Decarbonisation - the task of the century

Rapidly progressing global warming, increasing scarcity of raw materials, extreme dependence on gas, oil and coal from Russia, combined with exploding energy prices, are forcing the new German government to massively accelerate the energy transition.

In the energy-intensive steel and metal industry all production and processing operations must now be rapidly decarbonised through the use of hydrogen, green gases and green electricity, as well as CO2-neutral process heat - only sustainably produced steel and climate-neutral metals have a future. The iron, steel and smelting industry is therefore facing the greatest challenge in its history: the Green Transformation.

ecoMetals Day is the specialist conference on green transformation. It represents the imparting of concretely realisable application knowledge on the topics:

● Green Gas/Green Energy
● Green Steel/Green Metals
● Green Automation/Circular Economy

The congress participants can look forward to high-level expert lectures from sustainable pioneers and practitioners who will present solutions along the metallurgical value chain. Interdisciplinary panel discussions of energy and hydrogen experts with thought leaders in digitisation, automation and the circular economy will provide an opportunity for interaction and intensify knowledge transfer and discourse.

THE CONFERENCE TOPICS

ecoMetals Day is a three-session interdisciplinary conference with three thematic strands:
  • Green Gas/Green Energy
  • Green Steel/Green Metals
  • Green Automation/Circular Economy
The individual conference topics range from direct reduction via hydrogen (DRI), new application potentials of electric arc furnaces and induction crucible furnaces, hybrid heating, carbon capture storage, use of hydrogen as a process gas in heat treatment, green steel tracking & tracing, digital carbon footprint passport, steel and aluminium recycling, green automation, circular economy, green steel certification, H2 and CO2 gas grid operation, to legal details of high-pressure gas pipelines, hydrogen embrittlement, hydrogen manufacturing processes, energy efficiency through AI, Zero Emission Steel and CBAM- Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

THE TARGET GROUPS

ecoMetals Day addresses the technical decision-makers of the first and second management levels of

  • iron, steel and metallurgical companies,
  • smelters, foundries,
  • plant and furnace manufacturers,
  • heat treatment companies, hardening technology companies, forming companies, pre-processing companies,
  • companies in the field of measurement and control technology,
  • suppliers of process control technology, energy technology,
  • from network operators and energy suppliers,
  • companies in the steel trade,
  • research institutes in metallurgy and material sciences, the energy industry and electrical engineering, automation, information technology and process engineering
in D-A-CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and Benelux.
The conference is designed to be a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and knowledge transfer between the steel, iron and steelworks industry, science and energy policy. The focus is on holistic energy optimisation and decarbonisation of the industry, with the aim of introducing and implementing the principles of the circular economy. Interactive and frontal formats alternate.
